The story of W RADIO 101.5 (GDL)
W RADIO 101.5 (XHWK-FM) broadcasts on 101.5 FM from Zapopan, serving the greater Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico area.
The station dates to 1954, when it began as a rebroadcaster of XEW-AM. Cadena Radio Guadalajara, S.A., received the concession for XEWK-AM on 1190 kHz on October 28, 1954, though provisional transmissions had been authorized six months earlier, on April 27. The concessionaire changed in 1994. The AM station ran 50 kilowatts by day and 10 kilowatts at night from a transmitter site in Atemajac del Valle, Zapopan.
In 2017, XEWK-AM was approved for second-wave AM-FM migration to 101.5 MHz as XHWK-FM. The FM station signed on March 27, 2020, and came into official service days later. The AM was shut off at 11:59 p.m. on March 29, 2021.
