The story of Radioacktiva 97.9 FM
Radioacktiva is a Colombian radio station broadcasting from Bogotá with a focus on rock music. It is owned by Caracol Radio, part of the Spanish media organization Grupo PRISA.
The station began broadcasting in 1989 with a mix of rock and pop music. In 1997 it was reformatted to focus on rock. In 2001 it switched frequencies with sister station Tropicana Estéreo.
Among its notable programmes is El gallo, its flagship morning show, broadcast on weekdays from 06:00 to 10:00, which engages listeners with funny contests and quizzes offering prizes such as concert tickets, CDs and T-shirts. It also airs R8ck, the daily countdown on weekday evenings, and R20ck, the weekly countdown on Saturdays between 12:00 and 14:00; before the Planeta rock era, the weekly countdown was the Top 40. Another programme, El duelo, pits two artists' songs against each other for listeners to vote on by phone or internet.
