The story of RADIO FÓRMULA 97.5 (La Paz)
Radio Fórmula 97.5 is heard in La Paz, Baja California Sur, on 97.5 FM carrying Radio Fórmula programming. The station also broadcasts on AM as XENT-AM, at 790 kHz.
The XENT call sign traces back to a border-blaster station licensed to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, which operated nightly from 1933 to 1940 on 1140 kc/s with power reported from 50 kW to 150 kW. XENT was the continuation of KTNT, Norman G. Baker's station in Muscatine, Iowa, which was forced off the air in 1931 for excessive self-promotion and want of candor. Baker, a notorious cancer quack, heavily promoted his clinics on both stations. In 1944–1945, XENT's transmitter was acquired by Alamo Broadcasting for use at KABC in San Antonio, in a contested action.
The XENT call sign returned, this time to Baja California Sur, when Radio La Paz, S.A., was awarded a concession for XENT-AM on July 19, 1956. It was the first radio station in the state and was operated by the King family, which later started XHK-TV channel 10. In the mid-2000s, the station was sold to Radio Fórmula.
