The story of MIX 106.5 (CDMX)
MIX 106.5 (XHDFM-FM) is a radio station in Mexico City broadcasting on 106.5 MHz with an adult hits format. It is owned by Grupo ACIR, and its transmitter sits atop a tower at the "Ciudad de la Radio" facility in Álvaro Obregón, west of the city.
The concession for 106.5 MHz was awarded in 1964 to México Radio, S.A., for XHMR-FM. Soon after, the callsign changed to XHABC-FM, reflecting common ownership with XEABC-AM 760. In 1977 the station was sold to Fórmula Melódica and adopted its current callsign, XHDFM-FM. Fórmula Melódica, owned by the Guadalajara-based Ondas de Alegría group, broadcast romantic and ranchera music in Spanish until 1981, when it became "La Nueva Onda" with a ballad format. In 1985 the station moved studios after its previous facilities were heavily damaged by the 1985 Mexico City earthquake.
In 1986, Ondas de Alegría dissolved and Grupo ARTSA took over operation. The station was renamed "Stereo Amor" and then "Amor 106" in 1992, both times with a romantic music format. In 1995, XHDFM and its sisters were sold to Grupo ACIR, which gave the station its current name and format, created a year earlier on XHSH-FM.
