The story of MATCH 99.3 (CDMX)
MATCH 99.3 (XHPOP-FM) is a radio station on 99.3 FM in Mexico City, owned by Grupo ACIR and airing the company's Match hot adult contemporary format.
The station was authorized in 1964 as XEN-FM, a counterpart to XEN-AM 690, and simulcast the AM, known as Radio Mundo. It was sold in 1977 and adopted its current XHPOP-FM call sign. It initially broadcast instrumental music as Música Feliz 99 before switching to a contemporary hit radio format as Sonido 99 by the end of the decade.
The 1985 Mexico City earthquake severely damaged the studios used by XHPOP and its sister stations, and after time off the air and a relocation, it reemerged as Radio Metrópoli and then Fórmula Mexicana, both broadcasting Mexican music. It reverted to Sonido 99 at the end of 1987, and on November 16, 1988, it changed to Digital 99. In 1995, it was leased along with ARTSA sister stations to Grupo ACIR for ten years, and in 2005 ACIR bought the station outright.
In August 2013, it stopped using the "Digital" name, and on October 9 it became the Mexican version of Radio Disney, with most Digital hosts remaining. On December 25, 2019, Disney and ACIR announced they were ending their relationship, and on January 7, 2020, the station launched Match, featuring English-language hits from the 2000s to the present. In 2025, Spanish-language pop music returned to its rotation.
