The story of La Poderosa 88.9 FM Hermosillo

La Poderosa 88.9 FM (XHESON-FM) is a radio station in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, broadcasting a Regional Mexican format today. It is owned by Grupo Radiorama.

The station traces its origins to XESON-AM 680, which received its concession on November 12, 1988. Its original owners were María del Socorro Martínez Contreras, María del Socorro, and María Eugenia Vidal Martínez. Ownership passed to Grupo ACIR in 2000, and the station migrated to FM in 2011.

ACIR sold most of its Sonora stations to Radiorama, which in turn transferred their operation to Larsa. Under Larsa, the station aired a Spanish adult hits format as Toño, described as the company's "principal product." On August 3, 2019, as part of the transition from Grupo Larsa Comunicaciones to ISA Multimedia, XHESON dropped Toño and became Hermosillo's first Los 40 station.

After ISA Multimedia ceased operations of its Hermosillo cluster on December 31, 2021, the station switched to Regional Mexican as "La Poderosa" on January 15, 2022, when Radiorama resumed direct operation of the signal.
