The story of La Morrita 97.1 Mazatlán

La Morrita 97.1 (XHVU-FM) is a radio station in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, broadcasting Luz Network's La Morrita Regional Mexican format. The station began as XEVU-AM 720, receiving its first concession in February 1977 and broadcasting with 1,000 watts by day and 500 at night. It became a combo station in 1994.

It was previously known as "La Poderosa" with a Regional Mexican format until 2005, when it adopted the Ke Buena franchise format. In May 2009 it became "Magia Digital", a Regional Mexican format that had previously aired on XEFIL-AM. In early 2012, Radiorama began operating it as "Éxtasis Digital", an English classic hits format, and in May 2016 it returned to Magia Digital when MegaRadio resumed operating the station.

On June 1, 2017, Radio XEVU, S.A. de C.V., formally surrendered its AM operations to the Federal Telecommunications Institute. In 2023, MegaRadio transferred the concession to a Luz Network subsidiary, Neo Radio Medios y Comunicación, and the station eventually adopted the La Morrita Regional Mexican format already used on Luz-owned stations in Sinaloa.
