The station traces its roots to XEQE-AM 1340, which received its concession on August 31, 1948 and operated with 250 watts. In the 1980s, power was increased to 500 watts, and in the 1990s it reached a full 1,000 watts.
In 2011, XEQE moved from AM to FM as XHQE-FM 94.3, where it is now known as La Kañona.
