The story of EXA FM 98.9 (Los Mochis)
EXA FM 98.9 (XHMPM-FM) is a Spanish-language Top 40 station broadcasting on 98.9 MHz FM from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, with its tower located on Cerro La Memoria.
The station traces its roots to November 2, 1980, when Radio Topolobampo, S.A. signed on XEIF-AM on 1240 kHz, with its transmitter at Charay, Sinaloa. The station changed call signs twice: first to XEREY-AM, when it was known as Radio Reyna, and by 1994 to XEMPM-AM, by then on 1030 kHz and called Radio Fama.
In 2010, the station became La Pesada with a Regional Mexican format and local news. On November 3 of that year, XEMPM was authorized to migrate to FM, and XHMPM-FM 98.9 came to air at the end of January 2011.
After La Pesada failed, Radiosistema del Noroeste affiliated with MVS Radio to launch its Exa FM format in Los Mochis, effective May 14, 2011.
