94.5 Opus 94 (CDMX)

OPUS 94 (XHIMER-FM, 94.5 FM) is a Mexico City station broadcasting classical music. It is owned by the Instituto Mexicano de la Radio (IMER), with its transmitter located in Ajusco, south of the city.

In the 1970s, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional ceded its rights to 94.5 FM to the Secretariat of Public Education so that Radio Educación (XEEP-AM) could move to FM, but the SEP lacked the money to build the station and the proposal stalled. The Opus format began in 1983 on 710 AM (XEMP). That same year, 94.5 FM, the last full-power FM frequency available in Mexico City, was offered to attract noncommercial permits; IMER won out among several competing groups, and Opus moved to the new 94.5 XHIMER-FM on July 4, 1986, with 50 kW transmissions. Authorization for a boost to 100 kW came in 1991, but IMER could not install a capable transmitter until 1999.

The XHIMER-FM concession lapsed effective April 13, 2023, due to a failure to file a timely renewal. The Federal Telecommunications Institute granted a new concession under the template call sign XHCPDO-FM, which was later changed back to XHIMER-FM along with five other stations whose concessions had lapsed and been reawarded.

Opus 94 primarily broadcasts classical music, including concerts by the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra. It broadcast in HD Radio, formally launched on September 17, 2012, with co-owned XEB-AM on HD2 and Jazz Digital on HD3; all went silent in early 2020 due to operating costs.
