The story of 91.7 Exa FM (Tijuana)
EXA FM 91.7 (XHGLX-FM) is a commercial radio station in Tijuana, Baja California, broadcasting on 91.7 FM with MVS Radio's national Exa FM format. Programs and most music are in Spanish, with some English-language songs also heard.
The station came to air on November 11, 1990 as XHTIM-FM with MVS's Stereorey format, originally on 103.3 MHz. After interference complaints from US station KJQY, it moved to 91.5 MHz on January 27, 1992, sparking a dispute with KUSC in Los Angeles, which claimed XHTIM was operating illegally. The dispute ended amicably in 1993: on March 20 the station moved to 91.7 MHz, increased power, and cleared the interference to KUSC.
Later in 1993 it flipped to grupera as "La Mejor". In 1999 it became "Galaxy" with a classic hits format and the call sign XHGLX-FM, but in 2000 MVS switched it to its then-new Exa FM format. Studios moved to San Diego (National City) in May 2006. From November 2010 to September 30, 2011 it was known as Diego; on October 1, 2011 it returned to Exa FM as MVS moved Diego to XHOCL-FM 99.3, with the Exa studios moving back to Tijuana.
