The story of 89.7 Vida (Acapulco)
89.7 Vida (XHKJ-FM) is a radio station on 89.7 FM in Acapulco, Guerrero, carrying a Spanish-language adult hits format. It is owned by Grupo Radiorama, though it was originally operated by Grupo Audiorama Comunicaciones and known as Vida.
The station has deep roots: it began as XEKJ-AM, which received its concession in 1943, two years after starting broadcasts. It was Guerrero's first radio station, owned by María del Refugio Acosta de Valdivieso, broadcasting with 500 watts day and 250 watts night on 1400 kHz. Ramón Ortega Escobedo bought XEKJ in 1947 and sold it to Radio Mar, S.A. in 1956. The station later increased its power to 1,000 watts.
In 2011, XEKJ was cleared to migrate to FM as XHKJ-FM 89.7, and in 2017 its tower was approved to move to Cerro de los Lirios.
